According to the FBI, property and mortgage fraud is the fastest growing white-collar crime in the United States. It can be as simple as someone recording a document in the Official Records that fraudulently makes it appear as if that person owns your home or property.
As your Comptroller, I urge you to monitor documents recorded with your personal and/or business name. By signing up for FREE property fraud alerts you will receive notification by email or telephone whenever a document is recorded in Orange County with your name.
Given that the system only monitors your name, please note that subscribers with a common name may get multiple alerts. If you receive a property fraud alert, you can easily and quickly use the provided link to view the document in the Comptroller’s Official Records.
Reviewing your property records is an important way to protect yourself from fraud. I encourage you to sign up today and take advantage of this FREE service.
