Orange County, Florida, has been governed by the Charter since 1987. The County’s charter is like its constitution and grants our citizens and citizen-elected officials control over local and regional issues. This control adapts and evolves with our community as the Charter Review Commission (CRC) convenes every four (4) years to assess the powers of this home-rule document. Fifteen (15) appointed citizen representatives utilize research, discussion, professional advisors, and input from the public to develop questions that may be placed on the ballot during a presidential election year.
A vital component of county governance and operation is citizen involvement. As with dozens of other Commissions and Advisory Boards, Orange County Government facilitates proceedings for the citizen representatives of the CRC, who now seek input from fellow community members for the 2024 review process. This portion of the County Comptroller’s website is the hub where information can be found about CRC Members, meetings, and matters that will be considered as you participate in the November 2024 election.
Right now, the CRC wants your input on the charter provisions that matter to you and your neighbors. Review the Orange County Charter, attend one of the Scheduled Monthly Meetings, and Connect with CRC Staff to join the electronic mailing list for updates as the CRC gathers information and evaluates topics that you might spot on your next ballot.
Your voice is important to the success of the CRC’s mission. The monthly meetings of the CRC, including the public hearings that will take place in each of the six districts, are open to the public. Commit to attending a meeting with your family, your neighbors, or a school group, and take part in the next chapter in Orange County’s history!
The next 2024 CRC Meeting will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in BCC Chambers. A copy of the meeting agenda and supporting materials will be available online at https://occompt.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx prior to the meeting date.
